WAND
WAND Technology
The WAND solution comprises the following components:
WAND Repository
The WAND Repository is the centralised repository which holds all user, FRS and database access configuration data for all WAND customers
plus all WAND application toolkits. The WAND Repository is accessed via a secure public web service who ID is embedded within the WAND
client software.
WAND Client
The WAND Client is the actual software component downloaded to every WAND user’s local PC, tablet or other compliant device.
The WAND client is optimised for use with Windows Vista but is also compatible with all versions ofWindows XP (SP2) upwards. It
also requires the Microsoft .NET Framework V3.5 although this is automatically installed as part of the standard WAND client installation
routine if required.
The WAND client requires no specialist or additional connectivity software such as database clients or additional
communications packages in order to work. All it requires is online access to the SOPHTLOGIC WAND Repository.
FRS WAND Gateway
FRS WAND Gateway component provides the data location service that enables FRS WAND users to access and exchange data with their local
FRS datastore(s). The WAND Gateway can be any IIS server (Version 6) and SOPHTLOGIC provides a gateway deployment and services kit for the set
up and maintenance of this facility.
Installation and Configuration of Components
Of the components listed above only the WAND client and the WAND Gateway have implication in terms of installation and configuration work by
FRS ICT personnel. However, a key design goal of the WAND initiative has been to eliminate as many issues as possible associated with
and related to version control, product deployment and software updates.
WAND is designed to be primarily a fully automated system which
does not require large scale software release cycles in order to distribute either software features or fault fixes/enhancements.
User Registration and the SOPHTLOGIC WAND Repository
All of the essential access, security and configuration data is held within the SOPHTLOGIC WAND Repository and FRS personnel only need
notify user details to SOPHTLOGIC for this work to be carried out. Therefore user configuration and system access are minimal administrative
tasks for an FRS.
